Areas of Expertise: pastoral systems, management of common-pool resources, ecology of infectious diseases, coupled human and natural systems, complex adaptive systems
As an anthropologist, I examine the sociocultural as well as political dimensions of food production, marketing, and consumption. It is impossible to understand food systems, if one does not consider these dimensions.

Designing the Future of Food Innovation
In post-industrial Ohio, residents in urban areas face accumulating vacant land and multiple barriers to food security. Residents of urban areas are experiencing unemployment and inadequate access to basic food sources such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
