The purpose of the studies in my laboratory is to understand the factors that impact the community structure of gastrointestinal microbiota and to understand the influence that altered community structure can have on immune system activity during health as well as during infectious colitis. I am interested in discovering how foods can be used to alter microbial populations as well as immune system activity. I believe that I can contribute a unique perspective of microbiota:host interactions that will be valuable for the members of the Food Innovation Center.
