As the director of the Haiti Empowerment Project, I have studied and applied the work of Paulo Freire. Freire's work is based on the notion of praxis, working "with" not "on" or "to", and the empowerment of those who are oppressed by situation, history, or government. I can bring this knowledge of "working with" those from other countries and cultures to the global mission of the Food Innovation Center. The application of principles of community, culture, and collaboration are an essential part of the social science aspect of research in the area of global food issues and solutions.
