By extending my research to investigate the potential beneficial impact of foods or plant-derived nutritional supplements with anti-inflammatory properties on lung function (in collaboration with existing FIC members), I will identify new approaches to treatment of influenza- and non-influenza-induced lung injury. These studies will improve quality of life for patients with a variety of pulmonary diseases which occur worldwide, thereby contributing to the mission of the FIC.
