My research focuses on "gene x nutrient" interactions in prostate cancer. In particular, I'm interested in the effects of lycopene and its metabolites in carcinogenesis. Dietary components and inherited genetic factors are critical to understanding the pathogenesis of prostate and other cancers. Yet, little effort has been devoted to understanding how these distinct areas of cancer research interface. The elucidation of genetic variables that impact how a host responds to nutrients and phytochemicals will be key for personalizing recommendations for cancer prevention by dietary cancer prevention programs.
