Areas of Expertise: vaccines, shedding of pathogens

Promoting safe food for human consumption. There are two ways to get safe food: (i) by decontaminating the food and (ii) avoid shedding of infectious zoonotic pathogens from animals into environment. My research approach is targeting the latter strategy.  We are using a nanotechnology based vaccine delivery approach to local mucosal sites (oral or intranasal route); this protects the vaccine from degradation and facilitates its pulse release to mucosal immune cells.  e have standardized methods to deliver viral vaccines intranasally by this approach and achieved significant reduction in pathogen shedding. Similar approaches could be taken up for bacterial pathogens too.
