The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education program (EFNEP) is a USDA funded program that provides nutrition education for low income families with children. We follow NIFA guidelines to deliver our program: it is a series of lessons, being delivered by paraprofessionals, that teaches nutrition education based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, food safety and food resource management. It uses a hands-on participatory approach and the classes are at the appropriate literacy level to reach limited income families. The program is evaluated by pre and post self reported surveys that include a behavior checklist as well as a 24 hr food recall, showing good outcomes.
