From early childhood through the oldest-old food is essential for healthy living. For the young child and the oldest adult food and mealtimes have significant importance. The young child is learning about foods; experiencing new tastes, textures, colors, and shapes. For the older adult mealtimes have a heightened social importance in addition to experiencing food intolerances. Promoting a culture of healthy pleasurable mealtimes contributes to the quality of life.
