As the Surgical Director for the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition, I work closely with a multidisciplinary team designed to address and optimize all aspects of care for the morbidly obese adolescent population. In addition, my experience as principle investigator on several multi-institutional longitudinal clinical studies and trials focused on the use of surgical weight reduction options, as well as my leadership role in several national organizations including American Pediatric Surgical Society, National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions, and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery) brings a large degree of experience to and insight to the treatment of childhood obesity in its most severe form.
In a recent study from Nationwide Children's Hospital, FIC member and surgical director of the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition at Nationwide Children's Hospital Marc Michalsky, found extremely obese adolescents undergoing weight loss surgery revealed previously undiagnosed cardiovascular abnormalities leading up to their bariatric surgery.
