My interest lies in understanding how regulatory structures influence standing incumbents and new entrants in the food industry. The current body of theory concerning regulation tends to focus on how firms will tend to skirt the edges of regulation, complying with legal mandates, but otherwise co-opting the process. We know less about how and why firms adapt to regulation, or how they help to influence the process of regulation promulgation. This information has important implications for policy formation and the integrity of our food supply.
