It is becoming increasingly clear that persistent and latent microbial and viral infections also influence metabolism of their human hosts.  This raises the possibility that persistent infectious diseases may be linked to metabolic disorders and obesity.  As a basic research scientist studying human viral diseases for over 20 years, I wish to contribute the mission of the Food innovation Center by discovering and unravelling connections in infectious disease research to the problems of metabolic disorders and obesity. I hope to develop innovative collaborative teams with other researchers in the center to bridge these disciplines.
