Areas of Expertise: food safety, leafy green, virus, norovirus, calicivirus
My current research focuses on RNA and food-borne viruses, such as caliciviruses and possibly astroviruses or other foodborne viruses, that infect both animals and humans. Because RNA viruses evolve quickly and change disease patterns and host tropisms, they are the leading cause of emerging disease in humans. I will continue to perform both translational and basic research in virology to reduce the incidence of food-borne illnesses due to consumption of leafy greens contaminated with human enteric viruses, particularly enteric caliciviruses. My final goal is to better understand viruses and prevent and control viral infections in both humans and animals.
