Areas of Expertise: gut health, prebiotics, probiotics, intestinal bacteria and microbiome
One of my research interests focuses on the diversity and population dynamics of intestinal bacteria as affected by prebiotics and probiotics. My goal is to gain a better understanding of interactions between ingested food and intestinal microbiome so that more efficacious prebiotics and probiotics can be developed. My laboratory uses both traditional and contemporary metagenomic technologies in studying intestinal microbiomes of both humans and animals. As I have been collaborating with several FIC faculty members, I will continue and expand my collaborative research on intestinal microbiomes with respect to development of new pre/probiotics and enhanced host nutrition and health.
