Seed Grant RFP Released: Proposals Due May 9

The Food Innovation Center is pleased to announce the second annual FIC Seed Grant Competition. These grants will support new interdisciplinary food collaborations. Proposals that include new ideas and partnerships between STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) experts and those in business, social science, arts, or humanities are especially encouraged. New vaccine candidate shows strong potential to prevent highly contagious norovirus

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Scientists have shown that an experimental vaccine against the human norovirus – the bug behind about 90 percent of highly contagious nonbacterial illnesses that cause diarrhea and vomiting – can generate a strong immune response in mice without appearing to cause the animals any harm. A dose of safflower oil each day might help keep heart disease at bay

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A daily dose of safflower oil, a common cooking oil, for 16 weeks can improve such health measures as good cholesterol, blood sugar, insulin sensitivity and inflammation in obese postmenopausal women who have Type 2 diabetes, according to new research. Read more
