Carla Miller Finds Success with Mindful Eating Approach in Diabetes Study
Columbus, Ohio--FIC member Carla Miller found applying a mindful eating intervention to individuals with Type 2 diabetes resulted in reduced weight and lower blood sugar levels.
In the study supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Miller compared an intervention which used mindful meditation to make healthy conscious decisions about eating to a traditional program which emphasized nutrition. Results from both groups found lower weight, HbA1c levels, and consumption of foods high in glycemic index, all of which help contribute to significantly reducing complications associated with diabetes.
